|Pattern Description: Loose-fitting, unlined jacket or vest has front extending into back collar, front darts, back extending to lower side front, no side seams, and shaped hemline. I wear it like a blouse, not a jacket.|
Pattern Sizing: 8-24, I made size 8 with modifications
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes - mixing and matching the various views.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes the pieces all fit together quite nicely and the instructions are very clear.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like the lines on this pattern a lot. I like that it's different than what I normally wear (looser fitting, less structured). I liked the top stitching on view B so I copied that with a decorative stitch on my machine (not hand stitching like it calls for) but on view A which I used with woven rather than knit fabric for a smaller fit.
Fabric Used: Silk Rayon from A Fashionable Stitch in SLC, UT - it was a dream to work with.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: A lot. But they were easy. I know that Marcy Tilton's patterns run loose AND large. I made a muslin for this one (if you know me, that's a shock) because I knew it would be necessary. I did my usual small shoulder adjustments, taking up the sleeve cap and the shoulder. I also pinched out 3" from the center back bottom, darting to nothing toward the neck. I cut 1" off the sleeve bottoms - it calls for a 2" hem but I would have required a 3" hem and I have long arms! I also took 2" out of the entire sleeve length as the sleeves were quite wide. The biggest change, though, was sewing view A which is for a knit, in a woven instead - therefore making a smaller version to start with just by the fabric change. I still think this shirt fits me loose and even bigger than it looks on the models. I also used 6 buttons instead of 3 but that's no big deal.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I don't know if I'll sew this again only because I have enough patterns to rival a store at this point. However, I like it and I would recommend the pattern. It's fun and different in a subtle way. Just do what you can to check the sizing - it definitely runs large.
