Pattern Description:

From the pattern website:
"Jacket Express is a grown-up version of the blue jean jacket, but it's not just for denim! The hemline has been dropped and rounded to flatter all figure types. Seams are finished with optional double topstitching for the classic sportswear look. Instructions for the Jacket Express are created for faster construction by using a unique, out of traditional sequence construction order and simple ready-to-wear techniques."

Pattern Sizing:

XXS-4XL (34"-60" bust)

My measurements matched the size large, but I made mine from a stretch denim and wanted a more fitted look, so I made mine in the size medium. Check the finished measurements and ease to determine what size to make. If you want it looser, make the given size. For a more fitted look, size down (I would recommend a stretch fabric if you're going to do that).

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Yes!

Were the instructions easy to follow?

Yes! I did this jacket with the Sew Better, Sew Faster Craftsy class that this pattern comes with, but it's totally doable without the class (though I do recommend the class with or without the jacket because it's pretty awesome). The company specializes in adapting industrial techniques for the home sewist, and it results in a pattern that is interesting and a joy to sew together. It's definitely a learning experience.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

I loved learning the industrial techniques! My main criticism of the pattern is that it's not easy to do a muslin for it for fitting purposes, but on the flip side, the drafting is pretty awesome and was pretty accurate to my measurements (going off of the finished measurements sizing).

Fabric Used:

7oz cotton/poly/spandex stretch denim

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

None, other than stick a bunch of patches on the back. :D

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

Not sure if I'll sew it again, as I don't really need more than one denim jacket in my wardrobe, but I would definitely recommend this pattern to other people!

Conclusion:

This is definitely the pattern I'd recommend to folks wanting to sew a classic denim jacket. The details and instructions are superb, and it's a fantastic deal when you get it on sale with the Craftsy class. I would not recommend this to beginners, but that has less to do with the pattern and more to do with the nature of this particular garment. For intermediate up, I can't recommend it enough. If you want to learn some practical industrial sewing techniques, this is a great way to do it!

LOVE your jacket!! I made this up a while ago with the Craftsy course (that I also got on sale- such a deal) and I agree with you- it is such a great class and you learn so much! I love that you chose the stretch pink- and the patches on the back are so cool- love your style! :)
