Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, but not as good.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I loved how easy this was to make up, layering the fabrics on top of a base layer and it's easy to match up to the notches. However, I chose on reflection a fairly heavy stretch knit and I think that gave me a lot of problems. The seams became rather thick, and I'm so unhappy with the shoulders. They are very narrow. I've never found this a problem before, but because the fabric has gathered a little, it makes the shoulder sit very uncomfortably. However, this is the first stretch I've worked with, so I'm trying to chalk it up as experience. I don't like the raw edges and I'm not sure they'd look good after a few washes.
Fabric Used:
Some sort of far too heavy stretch poly fabric. It was reasonably cheap so I haven't lost too much.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I cut a 14 for the body, and a 12 for the neckline - I hate tight necklines so wanted a bit more room there.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I would recommend it as there's so many lovely versions on here. Mine's just a bit of a fail, I feel.
Conclusion:
At first I felt I wanted to throw the whole thing away, but it is an incredibly comfortable dress to wear. My children like it and call it the 'May Martin' dress from the UK Sewing Bee presenter. I know what they mean. I think I chose the wrong fabric and I want to give it another go with a thinner stretch fabric.

Aww, I'm sorry you don't like it :( I think, after reading like, every review for this dress, you have to choose something REALLY light due to all the layering. The color is GORGEOUS and it does look good on you. Hopefully you try it again and LOVE it! :)

I have been tempted so many times to buy that pattern but unsure how it would turn out. You did great! It's always hard to pick out fabrics. That is my biggest challenge.

It's a shame about the shoulders because the dress looks great on you. I hope you try again.

I really like this dress in a single colour. You did very well with your first foray into knits!

I think you should try it again. A lighter knit will probably sew up better and you now know the tweaks you need to make.

I'm sorry you don't like it because the color is wonderful on you. It is true a different fabric will make this pattern into a completely different dress.

I also like the dress in the single color. Hopefully you get some casual wear of this comfortable version, and try it again with a lighter weight knit.

Thanks so much for all your supportive comments - this dress did sadden me, but I will give it another go in a better suited fabric now I realize what went wrong. Fortunately the fabric was a cheap buy, so not much wasted, just time.
