I've worked in bridal shops and one thing I picked up was that a piece of soft, napped material on the workbench will hold the beads, make them easier to see, and it's easier to pick out with a needle the exact bead you need.. My colleague went one better.

Ann-Marie took a plastic lid and glued velvet to the inside. the rim keeps the beads corralled, and the flat center improves visibility. Any leftover beads can be poured into a plastic baggie or jar, as the lid will flex enough to make a sort of spout.

I'm just starting to bead a wedding gown. Thanks for this lifesaver. I have removed beads form a recycled gown and have a whole bowl full. I was wondering how I'd sort them.
