Easy even hem on a Bias top (Tip/Technique)

When making a top on the bias grain hang overnight to let it "drop" and you will have an uneven hem to deal with and quite likely a fine fabric too!
Put a dark top on underneath the bias garment to be hemmed. You can usually see the bottom of garment hem and use it as a straight guide for the new garment. Careful that if you're useing a stretch top underneath that the hemline is straight on your body.
You can either mark the exact hemline and then if you want the top longer measure down from that when you've taken your bias garment off or measure down from the underneath hemline whilst the garment is on the body. I have found that I get a straight hem every time! So easy. |
