When couching a piece of cord, thick thread or yarn along an edge to outline it the ends of both the fabric and the cord can sometimes get sucked down into the machine under the needle. It is particularly problematic on corners or pointed ends. Putting a two inch square of water soluble stablizer under each end allows you to stitch it evenly right to the ends. Place the square so that one inch hangs off the edge and one inch is under the beginning of the stitching.
Another tip on couching itself is that it is easier to keep the cord straight and cover it evenly with the zigzag stitch if you hold it sightly above the presser foot and keep it in the same exact position, perfectly perpendicular to the machine and feeding directly between the two sides of the stitch. The fabric feeds in under it and while the two are being stitched together the cord gets' pulled along ... so don't hold it so tightly that it can't feed through. Trying it will make more sense of this explanation. If I ever have another person in my sewing room who could take a picture for me I'll post one. Correction... if I have a person and remember to do this then I'll post it. |
