Waistline and Length Changes

This tip is taken from the late Mary Ellen Flurry's "Tailoring Ladies' Jackets". It is still available from Amazon.com.

"If you purchase enough fabric for a pair of slacks and an extra skirt, you'll find that your jacket will have a longer life. I purchase fabric for an extra skirt because of fashion changes in skirt lengths, and weight fluctuation. You can always make another skirt and wear your jacket unbuttoned, if you should have a weight gain." (Mary Flurry, Chapter 1: "Getting Started"; page 4.)
