Clear Pouches are easy to make to fit your sewing and household needs.
As I don't have a dedicated sewing room, I don't have the ability to hang sewing supplies on a wall but still want things handy, grouped together for use, and clearly visible. I have to keep supplies in drawers in my basement. I do use Ziplock bags for storing some sewing/household items together, but unfortunately, they don't come in every size you need. So then I quickly make my own clear pouches.
Walmart sells clear vinyl on rolls in different thicknesses. Buy 2-3 yards to have on hand and use it to make your own storage pouches. I use between the light and medium weight. Buy some stick on velcro too.
I simply lay whatever items I need a pouch for on the vinyl and cut around them allowing enough room for a fold over for items to fit into, and a flap fold over closure.
Use either a teflon or rolling presser foot. If you don't have those, use tissue paper on top of and under the vinyl as vinyl tends to stick to the SM bed. Sew a long straight stitch to close sides of the pouch. The seams are sewn on the outside and leave them that way as turning vinyl inside out would be almost impossible. Attach stick on velcro. Done.
One of the long pouches in that photo has long side seams. The other short. No need to worry about perfection. The idea is simply to protect (like the wires in tube turners) and to store items you use together and want to keep together. They are easily visible so when you open a drawer of your supplies you can grab what need and go. |
