Quick Continuous Bias Binding (Tip/Technique)

| I recently decided to try make bias binding and I always look for shortcuts. I found this website and tried it. This is an easy method to remember and it works great. I don't think the tutorial specifies but the diagonal cut will NOT be from the same corners on both sides. I tried it with paper first by folding and taping the ends. Then cutting as described. Didn't want to mess up any fabric. |

I can never understand these bias tutorials. Math challenged I guess! In the first pic is the fabric folded in half and if so is it still a rectangle when unfolded? That's where I am confused- it looks like a square but it's not when opened up? I have tried this on paper too but can't get past the first step.

happytobehere-- The first and second pix the fabric is folded in half, not quite square since is a half yard, approximately 18 in X 44 in, looks more square from the angle of the camera I believe. The trick is when the fabric is cut along the two drawn lines, then picked up on the cuts, the piece then becomes more of a rectangle. The way I learned was with a cheap piece of muslin, I ruined the first piece, but by the second try I saw my mistake with the first. I can now make the bias without looking at my printed out instructions! You can too as there is no math to use with this method other than measuring the half yard at the beginning. Hope this helps a bit.
