A lot of people use large washers from the hardware store for pattern weights; I did this too, until I saw some that had been covered with fabric. Not only can you have weights in colors you like, but the fabric helps to keep the weights from sliding around - it's a great, (and inexpensive!) solution.

I gathered washers in several sizes - the smaller ones are great for placing on pattern corners. You can glue 2 or 3 together for more weight. I then wrapped various ribbons and tapes around the washers - this is a good way to use up those extra trims you have in stash. You can get creative and use whatever you have - yarn, fabric strips, etc.... You may have everything you need lying around the house and/or workshop already. :)

I detailed my process in a blog post here: http://jillybejoyful.blogspot.com/2012/12/covered-washer-pattern-weights-tutorial.html

I have always liked this idea and now that I have a deluxe sewing room, I think I'll make some.
