If you need to cut a long strip of fabric, any width, it can be a pain to have to do all that marking at intervals along the length. A quicker way is to mark just the first couple of inches. Say you are cutting a strip 4 ins wide. You measure from your straight edge once or twice, just enough to make one accurate cut with your scissors. Then you flip this tail of fabric over and use it to guide the next cut. You repeat until you have a long enough length. As the 'tail' is doubling each time you flip and cut, you can have a long length really quickly.
