Measure round the widest part of your hips, making a note of how far down from your waist this is. Keeping the tape measure in place at hip level, sit down on a straight chair, letting the tape expand to its comfort zone.
Check your pattern at the same level (subtracting seam allowances).
A similar check can be made at upper thigh level.
