Have you bought anything from this store? If yes were the prices competitive?
I have bought lots of great fabrics from the store and the prices are extremely competitive.
Were the sales people polite and friendly?
There's not much interaction with staff...only at checkout, but they were very helpful and communicative and friendly.
How would you rate the quality of the item this store sells?
Fabric quality varies (as it does anywhere) from extremely high-end designer fabric to stuff that you probably don't want to waste your time with. And in between is a HOST of amazing fabrics at amazing prices.
How was your shopping experience. Is there anything you did not like about this store?
I am about 5'5", there were many times I wanted something from *up there* but had no chance of reaching any of those bolts.
I love, love, love the aisles and aisles of shirtings and stretch poplins and twills. There are amazing sheers and fantastic denim options. I scored Rock 'n Republic denim for $6/yard! There are tons of knits - TONS. You have to have some fabric knowledge though which my first two visits, I didn't. Now I think I'd be better equipped to choose fabric content by feel.
BUT, you can take a little swatch of fabric (BRING YOUR OWN SCISSORS!) and conduct a burn test outside. This way, you can be sure of what you're buying.
I am a Minnesotan so I am used to things being on the honor system. My husband, a Chicagoan (ok, I'm native to Chicago but have lived in Mpls since my teens) thought it ridiculous that people were trusted to accurately report the cost and yardage of their fabric!
There are some designer bolts and higher end fabrics that customers are NOT to cut -- you have to get an employee to cut for you.
There are also a dizzying array of zippers, buttons, trim, etc.
Would you shop here again?
YES! I am lucky they are a bit further away or I'd be there far too often. I am waiting for my mom to come so I can take her there and have her be amazed.
Would you recommend this store to others?
YES! If you live here, take the time and drive out. If you're nearby (WI, IA, etc) take the time and drive out. If you're visiting - take a few hours and go! :)
Any other comments you would like to add?
1) Prepare to stay awhile.
2) Please get a cart. Don't think you don't need a cart - you do.
3) If you can, know what you want before you go. Fabric is loosely organized by type (knits, sheers, denim, shirting, wool, etc).
4) Bring your own scissors. There are scissors at the cutting table but they are sad, sad, sad.
5) You are supposed to return the bolts to the floor...this can be difficult to remember where you got what but...it's like a VHS 'be kind, rewind' sort of thing! :)
