I absolutely LOVE this quit shop. No garment fabric here.
Here is what you can find:
Bolts and pre-cuts, including backing fabrics.
LOTS of rulers, patterns and notions
Isacord thread, among others
AccuQuilt Go dies
Variety of rick rack sizes
Classes and demos
Bernina sewing machines, accessories and luggage
I never fail to leave this store without something. Their big plus is the employees. They are so very nice, and will give you all the help you may need with your project. They offer long arm quilting services, and classes as well to rent the machine.
They will even allow you to use their classroom tables if a class is not in session, to lay out and baste your large quilt.
Cody is currently the sewing machine salesperson. He is very knowledgeable about all of the machines, and such a pleasure to deal with. I have purchased two Berninas from him. The last one I purchased came with a great free gift choice, and the price of the machine was still very good.
Their machine technician is second to none in the region. He diagnosed the problem with a PR member's machine very quickly, when another Bernina technician could not figure it out.
I like the way the store is organized. It is roomy enough to walk through and find things, and well lit. They have inspiring things on display.
There's a bolt clearance table in the back, as well as a clearance bin of smaller cuts. They have a program where every time you shop, you get points. I recently got a $25 gift card from that.
The shop is a little over an hour away, but well worth the trip. I wish I lived in that area, because it's a beautiful area of the state. State parks in the area are wonderful, and the shop just provides more incentive to camp there.
There are other great quilt shops (one that sells garment fabrics too) in close by towns. So -- know that the towns of Covington, Abita Springs, and Mandeville are great for a side trip from New Orleans. Oh and least I forget, Abita Springs is the home of Abita Beer. You can tour the brewery, and eat at the cafe. The beer is the best and comes in a variety of seasonal flavors.
