How is the web site look & feel / user friendliness? Is it easy to surf?
etsy is a website devoted to buying and selling handmade items. The feel is very artsy, creative and inspiring. It is very easy to find exactly what you're looking for using their search engine. Is this a commercial web site? If yes how are the prices? Do they have a secure shopping cart?It is a secure website, although you pay the vendor directly using paypal or credit card. Etsy uses a customer rating system, much like ebay, so it's very easy to tell by the ratings how the quality and service has been. I've not seen any ratings below 99% satisfaction, myself, and some vendors have had over 1,000 transactions.
How is the customer service?Customer service is outstanding. Because each vendor is independent, they work very hard to have a successful transaction. This also keeps prices low. If you can't find what you want, or think they price is high, there is always another vendor.
Have you bought anything from this web site? If yes, was the item delivered on time?Yes. I have made 4 purchases recently, shipping is very reasonable, and I received the item in a few days. The first order I placed was a 1 yard bundle of Anna Maria Horner's newer fabric collection, 'Good Folks.' It was 5, coordinating 1 yard pieces that fit into a $4.25 flat rate envelope. The shipping rates are clearly posted on each vendors page.
Would you recommend this site to others?Yes!!! I'm so happy I made this discovery! On etsy's home page, to the left of their search engine, click on the arrow to select what you are looking for. Click on 'Supplies'. In the search engine, type what you are looking for. They have vintage patterns, all kinds of supplies such as elastic, zippers and buttons. (Beautifully crafted buttons if you are looking for something unique or trendy.) I was able to find a few newer sewing patterns that I was having a hard time finding~a tunic from Serendipity Studios, and an Anna Maria Horner sewing pattern. The prices were better than other pattern websites. They carry most newer independent companies such as Amy Butler, Heather Baily, Anna Maria Horner, Serendipity Studios and the like. They are also very on top of fabric releases from these designers, and others such as Paula Prass, Joel Dewberry, etc. I also found some vendors who carry knit fabric at reasonable prices. If you are a quilter, this would be a great place to look as many vendors carry fat quarter bundles of coordinating fabric.
If you've read the new PR article 'Mix, don't match.' and want to try some of the tips on mixing and matching as I did, I found it very helpful to purchase a 'fabric bundle' from Anna Maria Horner, or the like. The colors were already coordinated, and contained a good variety of small, medium and large scale prints to make several garments using this technique.
I will continue to look at etsy for sewing supplies. I was pleased with my find, and wanted to pass it along to PR.
