Do you remove seam allowanc? (Moderated by Deepika, Sharon1952)

When fitting a blouse do you remove seam allowance from the pattern armhole when fitting it? I plan to make it as a sleeveless blouse. I'm doing a non wearable practice muslin to fit it. It's silhouette patterns #600 classic blouse. Also, is there a downside to adding back neck darts to improve fit? The back is a single piece with no back center seam, no yolk and no neck or shoulder darts. Thanks for your help.

For a sleeveless armhole I stitch a line of stitching, which works as stay stitching, and then clip the seam allowance till I can fold it back.
If you just cut it off it may stretch and distort. You won't get an accurate read.

Adding darts to the back is not a problem if needed.
Fitting a sleeveless shell is quite different than fitting a blouse with the sleeve. With so many garments being so closely fitted these days, it would be very easy to create a fitted sleeveless shell that would be quite uncomfortable if a sleeve were simply added. Best to make the muslin with a sleeve and then make a separate sleeveless shell.

Thank you. I had not thought of doing a line of stay stitching to prevent stretching. I'll do that first.

One at the neck line too if your not adding a collar.

Thanks. I do realize that I will have to do separate muslins for with and without sleeve. I find it is much easier to get an acceptable fit when making a blouse with a sleeve. When I'm doing a sleeveless I find fitting the back to be quite challenging.

I keep all seam allowances and stitch and slash as needed. This gives you room to let out if necessary and as City Sewing said, might distort the muslin if it is cut off.

I don't think you need to do 2 muslins, but you will need to raise the armscye of the sleeveless blouse.
