I went onto the BMV website to check out the OOP sale and it looks different. It's always slow during the OOP sales but it feels like they've redesigned it and broke it. Am I hallucinating?

The graphics on the home pages are HUGE now. Overly. Needlessly. Huge.

Then once I got to the patterns, it looked mostly normal - at least on Vogue it did.

I tried Butterick and I HATE the useless popup you get if you click on the pattern photo. Why, Butterick. Why would anyone want that? They put the line drawing on the popup in a short little box of its own that you have to scroll through. On my computer, that whole box is an inch high - the line drawing hiding inside it is at least 3 inches high. Dumb.

It's been this way for me when they did the last redesign, 6 months ago or so.

It's not changed on my end. Sometimes the images on the home page are larger then at other times.

I actually hate the redesign they did, but it hasn't changed on my end (at least) for this sale, nor since McCall's was sold, as far as I can tell.

Slow...yes. Usually during the OOP or a big sale, there is always some glitch I've encountered, and for me it's been going on for years. I don't think anything is new, just what I've been used to since the redesign last year.

Looking at Butterick.com on a tablet running Chrome, and it looks mostly like it usually does, except I think for me the images are actually smaller than usual. In fact, looking at it again, it looks like they've done away with the hidden menu you have to float over to find. Yay!

What I get when I scroll over or click on the pattern photo on the main catalogue page, is an alternate view of the pattern. For the line drawing, I need to click through, then scroll down to the line art/yardage section. I would prefer to see the back of the envelope instead, but this isn't horrible.

Is this different from what you're seeing?

I still do 99% of my internet on a computer/tablet, and hate how many websites have been optimized for viewing on phones (Craftsy, I am looking at YOU). The overly large images, not enough text, menus you have to hunt to find. *sigh* Luddite.

Since I don't purchase patterns (I take apart favorite rtw garments and make patterns) I seldom go to the pattern sites.

However, Threads magazine could use a good web designer. All I can say is I hope they didn't pay the web designer too much.

There is a KwikSew OOP sale going on now and the "add to cart" button doesn't work for many of the patterns. This happened at the last OOP sale that I'm aware of, maybe last summer? I tried to contract them via email back then, but received no reply. I looked around for a phone number just now and (1) couldn't find one and (2) their customer service appears to be closed today.

There is not a lot of stock for the OOP patterns. If you cannot click on the "Add to Cart" button I assume it means there is none in stock (or all that are available are in people's carts). Also, the drop down menu for other sizes is not always available because all sizes are not available for the OOP patterns. Yes, I agree that the site is slower than normal. I assume because of the increase in traffic. The OOP patterns sell fast. They do not do the OOP sales often. Maybe once or twice a year. By the time I find out about the sale and get on line, many of the patterns or sizes I was hoping to get are not available. I have even had a pattern in my cart and when I went to check out was told it was no longer available. I hope you have better luck.

Yeah, when they don't have the add to cart or another size, they don't have the pattern available.

tglacy is right, this is a big sale that they usually do January to March and then sometimes late August to October. I always check because it's amazing how many patterns they find that weren't on them before, or really even on the website anymore.

Thank you. That is why I figured. They should just remove the item from the item from the website, then.

I agree, but I also figure it's running slow for them and the item is "sold" in someone's cart but not paid for.

Several times I have gotten patterns that were unavailable at first, but got it a few days later. It seems to me (I don't know for sure) that they keep it like that and update it as they find where they stuck them lol.
