I recently shortened the shoulder seam length and did a forward shoulder thrust adjustment on a button down blouse. I moved it forward by 1/2". I'm wondering if maybe only 3/8" forward might have worked even better. Do you think I could make a muslin that just goes down to a few inches below the armholes just to check the fit with 3/8" forward? Thanks

I understand your thinking, less fabric waste, but you won't be able to confirm the overall balance of the shirt and I doubt whatever you are looking to happen with a 1/8" adjustment will be accurately evident. There wouldn't be enough weight attached to the shirt for it to hang properly. Can you piece the fronts and backs together with another fabric?

Thanks. I suspected that might be the case. I have enough fabric to do another muslin. I was just trying to be lazy.

I just had another thought. I sewed the shoulder seams using 3/8" seam allowance (no collar, and no sleeves). I could undo the shoulder seams and redo with 1/8" less forward thrust to see if I like that better.

That should work to help see if it makes a difference. I understand wanting to cut corners.....muslins are such a snoozefest!

And once you get the shoulders and armscyes right for you, make a copy of those portions in a good heavy paper and keep them available for comparison to other patterns. Might as well use the work you've already done to get a headstart on a new pattern.

Yes. I'll do that. I really am eager to get the shoulders and armscye down so that I can progress to even more fitting adjustments in other areas. I'm determined to make a blouse that fits. Thanks.
