I have been unable to logimn for two weeks. I have been exchanging emails with Deepika but I still cannot login. Now I am logged from a library computer...
None of my home Pcs allows me to login telling me something about the cookies, etc. which is an error message I think because my Pcs allow cookies and this has been checked (I changed all the settings to the settings suggested by Deepika. The weidr thing is that nothing has changed as far as my home computers are concerned... Simply one day I resterted one of them and ever since then I have been unable to login. Tried creating a new username and the problem persisted with the news username. Tried different browser (i normally use Explorer and tried Mozilla), updated my Windows and Explorer, practically did everything that my husband and I could think of... no change.
I do not have problems logging to any other site from my PC, just PR. Also, when I go to the site the adrees appears like an IP address, with figures, instead of patternreview.com which is a weird thing.
Since I am going home, I won't be able to respond to any of the replies but will be reading them. If someone has any ideas what might be wrong, pls respond to thins post or email me at [email protected]
Thanks a lot,
Eli

Are you running any kind of firewall that is preventing this from happening - like "zone alarm"??? If so, try turning that off and see if that works. At least then you will know there is some kind of program or site block on the firewall that needs to be changed.

One thing to check is if when you go to patternreview.com does it refresh the page to an ip? If tthats the case, can you try flushing your dns?
Are you on a mac or a pc?

Did you recently download a popup blocker? (Such as google or yahoo toolbar?) That caused me a ton of problems at work. I don't know why it would prevent you from logging on to PR, but might be a case. Sounds like cookies to me, too.

You might try doing a system restore to a date before this all began happening. I resorted to that a couple times when a "mysterious" problem would occur.
If you don't know how to do this go to control panel and system, then system restore. The operating system uses saved info to put the system back to a previous restore point. My husband and I have had quite good luck with this tool. If you have installed any programs in the last couple weeks, you will have to re-install them.

My firewall got an update and made it so this site kept asking me to logon. Then when I tried, it sent me to the window that says the cookies need to be enabled.
I was able to fix the problem by turning off my firewall for a few minutes. I logged in and everything worked. Then I turned the firewall back on *when I was inside the site*.
Let me be extra clear about "inside the site". I'd go to the home page, then go to a topic, then read something inside that topic, THEN I'd turn the firewall back on. Then I was ok.
I had to do this several different days before the problem finally corrected itself.
I'm still not sure I understand what happened. The whole time I had cookies allowed, popups allowed, and sewing.patternreview.com allowed in the firewall program.
Hope this helps :)

Finally, I am able to log in from my computer.
I decided that the cookies message was definitely an error message and that the problem should be behing the site refreshing to an IP address, it was not getting resolved.
I tried logging from the server and from the server everything was just fine. My husband then started shifting the order for resolving and somehow miraculously it started to work (after I renewd from teh command prompt). I don't know how it will (if any) affect everything else but we will see.
