Good Morning:
We have been thinking that perhaps DD should have the dress for her beach wedding made by local seamstress. Would like to start looking at patterns. Please advise as to best patterns for longer dresses. It is to be a beach wedding and I think something floor length will not work too well :-)
I also don't have a clue as to which pattern company will be the best for this type of dress. She wants something simple but very sophisticated, and as of yet, has not made up her mind about neckline, or back, so we are open to any "design". As always your time is a much appreciated gift. Thank you.

For a starting point, David's Bridal suggests these for beach weddings. I filtered out the long dresses that came up in my beach wedding search.
This selection might help sharpen the focus a bit.

Keep in mind that any dress could be a wedding dress - given the right fabric and embellishments.
And "beach" can mean different things to different people. (I see more flowy chiffon than tailored lace sheath, and a dress trailing a bit through the sand is not that bad IMO) Elephun gave you a good list, may of which are not what I picture for a beach wedding, but would be perfect if that was what your DD wanted.
Look through all the resources you can find (Pinterest, bridal magazines, etc.), identify a few silhouettes, maybe even go to a local place (like David's) and try some on. See how she likes how she looks/feels in the different shapes and fabrics. Which make her feel like a bride and would be comfortable at her venue?
Then come back here and ask for patterns like that!

Congratulations to your DD!!!!!
I've been in the mood to do a pattern and design for a breezy floaty romantic beach wedding gown in gauzy light linen.
What size is DD?

You need to go on a fitting expedition. With our daughter I found out that her style grew and she got used to the idea of being the bride and it being her day. We did three trips a few weeks apart and with each trip the dresses that she picked were quite different. She finally settled on me making the dress from a vintage pattern from the 1950's with way more lace and bling than the simple white "frock" she picked first. I started looking for lace and finally made our last trip to David's bridal to pick a lace style so I could come home and order it. We pulled several dresses of different laces and she tried on a beautiful dress and came out of the dressing room in tears. She looked beautiful and to our surprise, the dress was on sale and it was do for another markdown, so she got the dress of her dreams, with $$$$ lace and beading for 70% off. I honestly could not have bought the materials for what we paid for the dress.

Sometimes you have to think from the sand up. What footwear will she be wearing? Will the wedding be on the beach or near it? Will photos be taken on the beach, rocks, logs sand etc, all those factors can effect the fabric choice.
My brother and sil were married just above the sandstone beach at a family property on grass. Photos were taken on the beach sitting on logs, sandstone etc.
Island Wedding
My sil is tall and slender, her dress was perfect for her wedding day.

In 1989, a day after DD's first wedding, I woke up with a screaming headache and a case of shingles that lasted for two months and nearly cost me an eye ! NOT DOING THAT AGAIN ! I am going to be the absolutely "NO STRESS MAMA"! She has a great sense of who she is and what she likes. I just thought it might be nice for her to have one made and I will propose your suggestions--then I am backing into my little sewing space and trying to do a little something for me and call it a day. Dad has all the Tommy Bahama shirts any man could ask for --some even still have the hang tag on them, so I don't need to worry about him ! ;-) I will ask that if you gals get a sense that I am falling into the "mother of the bride" syndrome you feel free to jerk me up short !
