Good Morning:
DH usually makes us a very good cup of coffee in the morning. He is out of town today so I had the opportunity to take a look inside the metal pot (Krups). It is an old fashion drip pot and the inside is black ! I know I can bust my knuckles with a Brillo pad, but I am wondering if any of you have a chemical cleaner you use for this?
Thank you for your time and input--they are always a gift.

I boil baking soda with water in the pot, maybe add white vinegar at the end, scrub a bit with a brush while the warm water is still in the pot. Repeat once if needed.
On the other hand, NEVER doing this can sure add to the taste, hahaha.

I use Dip It coffee pot cleaner, it works very well on perculators & then I poor the water into cups that are stained with coffee & works there too.

My husband discovered if he used a Cascade dishwasher tab, puts it in the pot and adds hot water, lets it sit for 15 minutes, it is clean inside the pot.
Yes, and you have to really rinse things afterward.
Yes, the coffee pot will smell like Cascade for 1-2 pots of coffee. It seems to hold the stinky smell in the plastic cap part of the caraf. Ours is a Cuisinart with a metal pot. I rinse that really well to help remove the smell.
No, the coffee does not taste like Cascade.
After the 3rd pot, the smell is usually gone. It does work amazingly well---but it smells. I have tried other brands, but only use these to clean the coffee pot.
I do NOT use Cascade in the dishwasher, as I do not like the smell.

Currently working on a boys quilt. Sized 40 x 40 inches. It has chickens, chicken eggs, cows, fish, sea life, afield with water, Dachshunds, mini sailboats, and many colorful other fabrics. The blocks are a 4 x 4 finished size, so many of them are needed.
This my 4th quilt in 7 months.

So after cleaning it, make sure to run about 3 or 4 times to get the cleaner out. (I really don't make coffee; in fact I had to have a coffee lesson when I did the holiday lunch at work because I didn't know how to operate the coffee pot.)
I know it isn't like a coffee pot, but I used vinegar on my electric teapot to clean it. But I made sure I boiled about 3 to 4 pots of plain water afterwards to get out the vinegar.

I have a Krups cone filter coffee maker. I clean the SS thermos carafe inside with Bar Keepers Friend powder every week.
I fill the water reservoir with cold water and some bleach about once a month or so,then brew bleach water.I rinse what I can with cold water. Then brew only hot water without a filter, sometimes twice. There is no bleach smell when I'm finished cleaning our coffee maker.
When I drink coffee at some places I can taste the coffee maker and/or pot needs cleaning.
A teapot or "Brown Betty" doesn't have to be cleaned that way. Tea tastes better if a good teapot is only rinsed with hot water.

Bar Keepers friend. Then rinse. Then run several pots with 2/3 cold water & 1/3 white vinegar. After the last run-through with water/vinegar, run a couple of pots with just cold water!!! Vinegar takes out any calcium deposits inside the coffee maker (which can greatly impact quality & taste) & eliminates odors.
Good luck.

I use Klearly Koffee (here). I also inherited my dad's industrial Bunn, so the basket and the water head also gets cleaned with it plus my air pot. In my studio, I have a percolator (and I camp with a campfire one), I use this for that as well.
I usually run a squirt with the water though my maker instead of vinegar and let it sit for half an hour or so, then rinse it well. This stuff is easy to use (they say use a brush, but I usually let everything soak overnight every day then rinse well in the morning) and clean the machine once a week. It keeps it looking like new with minimal work.
As a caveat, I use my coffee makers about as much as a restaurant would. At home, I make about 3-4 pots a day, put it in the air pot (it stays fresher) and I make at least a pot at the studio 4-5 times a week (when I am there and I only clean that one on my days "off").

Don't touch it! If it goes wrong you may never hear the end of it......
