I just got a new to me Vintage White (see the I need to stay off shopgoodwill thread ) I ran by Hobby Lobby grabbed a 1/4 yard of fabric and made myself a doo-rag. This is my go to thing to test a new machine . I have made enough of them of them I know how they go together Usually enough sewing to give me an idea how the machine does . Anyone else have a item they make to try out a new machine?

On this machine the needle is way left for straight stitch

I typically make a tote bag or duffle... that gets me a chance to try straight stitching, stitching through several layers to make the handles, and a buttonhole or three for pockets or drawcords to run through. And lots of room to play with the decorative stitches.

That isn't a bad idea as I have enough doo rags now . I need to make a case for a single shot pistol I have . I do button holes on my hand crank singer with a button hole attachment . On this last machine I went through most of the stitches trying to get it to sew a straight stitch . I had to look up a manual online

Roy, if you don't have a pattern to use, take a look at http://fashion-incubator.com/zippered-pouch-1/ for ideas and sewing order to adapt.

thanks I have this odd ball sized single shot 22 pistol that I will have to make a case for . I was thinking Denim lined with fleece . mainly because I have that fabric A long zipper is all I would have to buy
