I'm sewing bridesmaids dresses for a bride who has selected beautiful burgundy stretch lace for an overlay, as it perfectly matched the crepe. I'm unsure of adding it as a straight overlay on top of the crepe, in case it sags.
I've had the idea of slightly stretching the lace so that it's smaller than the crepe.
Any ideas as to whether this would work? It's a simple darted dress.
Thankyou in advance.

Stretch laces have different amounts of stretch and they'll behave in different ways.
The only way you're going to know for sure is to test it on a sample bodice beforehand.
Alternatively, to remove the stretch, bearing in mind it depends on the type of lace & the design plus how much time you have and your willingness to do it, you can mount the lace onto a fine dress net or tulle (same colour as the underlying fabric) and using a fine machine embroidery thread in a shade that matches the lace, zigzag stitch (or free motion) around the relevant motifs to anchor the lace to the net.

Thankyou for your reply!
I've got plenty of fabric, so I'm doing some experimenting, and so far so good!

You can loosely tack it to the bodice in various places.
