I was looking at the muted navy Tracksmith fabric from FM, and I realized it had more stretch on the crossgrain than straight grain, so I cut it out that way. I was being stingy with fabric, and used straight grain for the waistband.

And the waistband is shiny. The butt and thighs aren't.

I tried just stretching the fabric again with a different FM nylon 4 way stretch fabric. It's probably 80% on grain, 50% cross, and once again, it's shiny on straight grain, looks normal when stretched even more on cross grain!

So from now on, my leggings are going to be cut on the cross grain, so they don't have that hyper-stretched, not quite sheer shine!

Thanks for the tip! I have several yards of this same fabric and it's not my favorite because of the shine. I was going to relegate it to toilet fabric but I'll try it on the cross grain.

Thank you for the tip. I have the same fabric and deemed it only fit for looser garments because of the shine. Now it's back in play for other garments!

I have the same fabric and wanted to thank you too, for saving me finding this out the hard way!
