from the side to the back. . .

Hello,
I have a gored skirt pattern that I would like to make, and the zipper is on the side. I prefer them in the back so I was wondering if that would change anything drastically as in fit? Is there anything that I need to be careful about? Thank you for any help!

Elley, I like zippers in the back, too. A seam is a seam, and you can put a zipper in any old seam you want to, without affecting the fit at all. Properly inserted, the zipper doesn't change the amount of seam allowance used, so fit isn't an issue. You will have to be conscious of changes that might be necessary for the waistband or facings; they will require a center back seam, too.

Thank you! That is something that I always wondered, but never tried, and couldn't find an answer in a book!
