It had been working fine. I changed threads and the air threading will not work on the chain looper. The upper looper and lower looper air threading work fine. But it will not thread the chain looper. Any suggestions?

If you got a wire in the accessories kit try running it though that looper. There might be something stuck in there.

I just had a class on basic maintenance on Babylock sergers and the guy that taught the class told us that the wire did not come with one of the Babylocks. I forget which one but he also told us to store them carefully as they cost $19.99 to replace. I have mine in an old Square CD case tied to keep it from unraveling.

It was a great class and I learned a lot about my Imagine, the best thing was where and how to oil it. This was something I had been trying to get the tech to show me for a while. His response was to bring it in for service which I will do anyway, but I do like to keep all of my machines cleaned and oiled.

When you run the wire through the port, push it through the port and pull it out the other end. If there is a clog, that will help dislodge it.

Lost the wire thingy first time I used it. Threading setting correct, foot up, and I make sure the thread is long enough to go through the threading process, plus a little extra. Starching the first few inches might help. Make sure it is dry. Best wishes!

That sounds like a great class. Was it given by a dealer employee or by a factory rep? My first sewing machine (Kenmore) came with good instructions for taking it apart and oiling. I can't believe there isn't some maintenance we can do on more modern ones too.

It was given by a dealer employee. He really knows sewing machines. He sold me my first Bernina in 1997 and gave me the class. It was first rate. He now works for the Babylock dealer.

The class was free, but as you can quess, there was a bit of marketing of sewing items sold in the store.

I spent $65, and so did a lot of other people. I like the dealer so really don’t mind the sales pitch. We need good dealers.

What worries me is the age of people sewing these days. Everyone there seemed to be my age or older. It was a big class too.

I made a spelling correction and everything got underlined. I need to use my computer rather than my phone.

As PattiAnnj wrote, leave a really long tail after you thread the tension disk and insert into the air port. I had trouble a couple of times and ended up rethreading everything, taking the spools off and ensuring the telescopic guide is at its highest. Make sure the thread is snapped into the tension disk, pull out a long piece, then into the port.

I think that overlock #2 and the upper looper threads run too close together in the telescopic guide on my Evolution, because when I serge fast they have tangled and broken the looper thread on several occasions. I can’t find any other cause for it. I don’t know if this is a problem on the Ovation.

I understand about age but actually there are a lot of younger people getting into sewing - checkout how much fabric there is at Joann’s in the cosplay and costuming sections. They are sewingva lot in these areas. But they’re not necessarily going to traditional dealers early on for machines... they’re buyingbon line or at chain or big just x retailers. We’d see them sometimes (when I worked for dealer) from local college or private fashion schools, but more typically when they were having a machine issue, then they may consider an upgrade or at least something with free classes and service. While not my area of sewing interest I’m glad it’s a growing interest that gets more re new sewers into the market!

You are so lucky to be able to take a class like that. For years I kept an old Singer sewing machine going mainly by doing the regular cleaning, oiling and lubricating as described in its manual. I miss being able to do that with my current machines so much. Every time I go poking around in a "forbidden" part of a machine these days I feel a bit like I'm committing a crime!
