I'd like to applique flower/paisley velvet cut-outs on a pair of jeans. But when this raging trend is over (maybe it already is among the trendiest, but I'm getting on board now for a season) I want to remove the applique and keep wearing the jeans. Can anyone recommend something to fuse the velvet to the jeans, but that would be removable later? I have Stitch Witchery but I worry about a permanent adhesion. I'm applique'ing the velvet cut-outs pretty far down the legs, so it's quite a bit of gluing that would be needed. Or, is my main option to tack on the cut-outs with a washable Wonder Tape & then stitch them on the jeans? Although, I'd rather not stitch ... Thanks for any help!

I think anything that would glue the pants would end up being permanent and would leave residue. I'm thinking that handtacking would be the better route to take if you think you'll continue to wear the jeans after the trend is over. Don't forget the appliqued spots will probably not fade as quickly as the rest of the pant, so the outline may always remain even after removal.

The only other thing that I can think of is that recently I have seen appliques that snap on. But - that would mean that there would still be snap in its place when you took the applique off. Perhaps some decorative snap head to take the place of the applique.

Other than that - hand stitching the applique is the only sure way and ClaireC is right in that the part with the applique will not fade as fast as the rest of the garment.

Oooooooooh, the fading part, didn't think about that. Thanks for mentioning! Hmmmm. Will have to think how much I want to applique these particular jeans, then. The applique pieces have lots of small pointy and thin rounded edges, so it really is something I'll have to sew down well rather than snap. Hmmmmm ...
