I've searched online for ways to clean that pesky grove around the top of the base where the lid seals onto the pot. The best cleaning method I've found calls for one of those disposable foam brushes but the thought of using them around food grosses me out. I've tried assorted microfiber towels and paper towels wrapped around the tip of things like chopsticks and just folded up and run through but they don't really work well.

Any other ideas? Does somebody make something food safe to use?

I hope I don't gross anyone out (I wonder if I'm leaving tiny fibers behind?) but I use a brand new Q-tip.

I also keep a pack of baby wipes in the kitchen because they clean so well. Reading your question made me realize I could wrap the end of one around the Q-tip and probably do a better job of cleaning that goove.

I use toothpicks to scrape out the edges of the Instant Pot. And then I'll follow up with a paper towel, soaked with dish cleaner if necessary.

Thank you both for the suggestions. I just tried and liked using a strip of kitchen sponge a bit narrower than an inch wide and liked it. It has a slightly rough side that gives it some body and scrubbing ability if needed and it fits neatly into the groove. I just cut it the short way across with a serrated bread knife.

I hope I don't gross anyone out with this one but I bought a denture toothbrush. It has two sides and it works great. I keep it in the dishwasher do it gets constantly cleaned.

I fold up a paper towel several times until it is barely thick enough to fit in that groove, then I spray the paper towel edge with a white vinegar & water solution I keep handy. Mostly I'm cleaning up water, so it works quite well and isn't toxic.
It also works very well on the bazillion little grease splatters from sautéing.

I use tons of those little disposable brushes that have a mini brush on one end, but a firm "pick" on the other...they fit in groves everywhere...edge of stove where metal trim is attached, edge of sink on counter top...edge of anything....that little pick is firm enough to hold up and fits in most groves...amazing what collects where...LOL...even on some parts of my machines...

Thank you, all! This is timely for me. My daughter recently acquired an instant pot. My SIL does clean up but I usually know when he has washed the pots and pans ;-(

I used to pack an old toothbrush, rubber gloves for cleaning, and a few other items I like for cleaning until DD suggested I just keep a small bin at the back under the kitchen sink. Looks like I might need to add a few other items... And I will be inspecting the instant pot for that groove.

Eleanor - Barkeepers Friend is the best for cleaning the inner pot to a mirror shine. I prefer the powder and some people prefer the liquid.
