At some point, I got the bright idea of using a size 16 for the front of my skirts and 18 for the back and HUZZAH! It works out SO well!

I've made quite a few pants patterns - my best fit came from V9032 (and I made 10 pair over the years!). It had princess seams in back and I don't have wrinkles in the back leg (well maybe a little...but I'm not an "overfitter").

I'm making a new to me pattern - I've sewn a ton of Burda mag patterns and this is an envelope pattern. I have some wrinkles that I'm sure are from the need for a full inner thigh adjustment but while fitting them I thought to myself, "It's like the entire back needs to be a little bit bigger" and then thought, that's what I do with my skirts.

So now I'm wondering what the "appropriate" adjustments may be or if I should just cut a bigger size for the back...

Is it just width across the backside you need, or do you also need more front to back room and need a longer crotch extension? Or just the crotch extension?

How do the side seams and inseams hang?

What would happen if you just stole a little seam allowance at the full hip?

Photos?

So(!!) LOL! I had the bright idea to try the pants on while I had the portion of the inseam open (from the fullest part of one thigh, through the crotch and to the other thigh). It's not overall width, it's specific to the inner thigh and butt.

I need MORE ROOM for my thighs and a longer back crotch curve. Like, way longer--almost an inch.

So, looking at the options for inner thigh adjustments now.

For *this* pair I'll just let the seams out a bit. Strongly considering inserting a gusset.

Oh, you have my backside and legs! Yup, a little out of the seam allowance, and some more extension. Did you get them pulled up to the point where the back crossgrain is straight? Do you need to change the crotch curve shape a bit? If I were pretty close, I'd pop a gusset into the crotch and call it good, then transfer the changes to the next iteration of the pattern by dividing the gusset to keep the inseams straight.

I did some finagling. I let out the inseam a bit but mostly in back only. I left the seam allowance at the crotch at 5/8". I let out the side seams a bit through the thigh area. But I am so looking forward to the next iteration. I will have to remember to check my crotch curve with the flexible ruler against the pattern too.

Don’t worry about adding an inch, just add it. I need to add nearly 4”! But they are the most comfortable pants :)
