How to cut and sew a stretch woven fabric? Is there any particular grain the pattern needs to be placed on? What about bias direction of grain? Could lettuce edging work in that direction of cut?

The straight grain is still the straight grain and the bias is still the same. How you lay out your pattern depends on which direction the stretch is. In a woven fabric the stretch can surprise you and run in the length. If this is the case then you would lay out your pattern on the cross grain so that the stretch goes around the body. I have no idea about lettuce edging, I would think that it depends on your fabric. Make some samples.

My guess is that you would treat lettuce edging the way you would treat border printed fabric, and hope the designer took direction of stretch into account. put the edging where you want it, design wise.
