Hi I would like to sew a binding on a tee neck line. I have made many tshirts and all of them are using the band method and look great.
When I do the binding method the binding goes on well when I do the initial stitching but when I fold it to the right side and stitch the neck my sewing machine flattens and stretches and neck out horribly. I’ve used the double needle to stitch sleeves etc and that has worked. Do I need a difference foot for this? Like a nonstick?

Have you tried using fusible knit stay tape around the neckline? This is what I do now and it makes an enormous difference. The band stretches, the neckline does not.

A lot of us here on PR like the Sarah Veblen method of tee bindings. Here is the Sarah Veblen Video. The only things I do differently is cut the band wider at 1 3/4", and after I stretch and sew on the sewing machine, I serge the SA, press the SA toward the bodice, then run a line of topstitching on the right side with an edge stitch foot directly under the SA. That keeps it down throughout all the future washings/dryings.

T-Shirt neckline.

Try adjusting the pressure on your presser foot if that's an option. It might be getting squeezed to much. And check to see if you are pulling or tugging on the back end of the needle.

Also, try giving it a light press before doing the top stitching. It might be getting stretched a bit the first time without you realizing how much. Give it a flat steam press and see if that helps get the original cloth threads back where they were.
