Hope everybody out there had a Labor Day BBQ, potluck, or picnic. Did you try something delicious? Something unusual? New favorite recipe? Or did you have a cooking disaster? Something extra yucky?

I tried to fix carrot cake (from scratch) for the very first time. End result was um, eh, well...not too great.

Attention all foodies.. report in. chocolate cakes appreciated .

They had a sale on ribs so we had ribs. already cooked you just had to heat them up.. and beans from the instant pot.. and mac and cheese from those infamous blue boxes. Watermelon and Ice cream.. Its still too hot here to cook/bake.

We only consider food yucky if the dogs won't eat it either.. I must say I like MY ribs done in the crock pot or grill more then I did those precooked one.. But Hey.. I did not have to cook so I am a happy camper.. er .. diner.

DH is making the old Cornell University extension recipe for bbq chicken from the 1950s. I will probably throw together some coleslaw with milk dressing to go with, and if I get ambitious, some Cuban beans. Well, I will at least get the beans soaking. Oh, and sweet corn and fresh tomatoes. It is still corn and tomato season here.

Texas barbecue yesterday. Others did all the cooking and insisted on sending me home with lots of leftovers. Leftovers are my favorite food. I usta be chief cook for all the holidays. This holiday I was glad to be replaced.

Just fresh vegetables and leftover meatloaf for dinner.

In a few minutes I'm preparing a new to me German language green grape cake recipe. 4 eggs, less sugar, sour cream, oil, fresh orange juice, orange zest, flour and ground almonds. I don't have almonds for the topping.

I'm trying out a new recipe today - Sour Cherry Black Forest Trifle. I had a bumper crop of sour cherries this year, so I am trying to find new recipes to use them up. I'll report back on how it tastes later. So far the recipe has been easy to make.

Mr. Slowly and I argued about mowing. I couldn't work the big mower because my hand is a little messed up from painting. I taped up my hand and used the little mower while he used the big mower. It seems people around here seem to use mowing in lieu of couple's therapy. I told him we need to "keep the scene out of scenic" which is why I wanted the stretch along the highway to be mowed. I made friendship corn dogs and coleslaw. Now I am going to go pick some black berries to go with my some sweetened sour cream. Lots of labor on this day. I think the mowing trick is good because the mower is a little like an expressive enhancement. It says ggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr for you.

PS. Totally unrelated
All morning I kept wondering what are these phrases.

Apical Dominance
Imposed Narrative
Feigned Incompetence

I am also wanting some a thread about boardgames.
