It would be helpful to know more about these two ways of identifying stretch knit fabric. Does crosswise stretch mean that it only expands on the horizontal and not the vertical? Does the 4 way stretch mean that it stretches the same percentage in any direction? When online fabric sellers display a stretch knit hung on the model in a 45 degree angle does that mean that is how it should be sewn? Thank you all

I would interpret crosswise stretch as being only that direction, with none vertical. However, I would also like information on the recovery after the stretch.

I sew lots of activewear and buy lots of activewear fabric. Obviously stretch information is very important there. There is little consistency about 2- and 4-way stretch. My understanding is that what we in the US consider 4-way stretch (horizontal and vertical with recovery) other countries consider 2-way stretch. Knowledgeable fabric sellers give you great info. Here is a good example, GreenStyle , but there are many others.

Of course, the amount of information needed depends very much on your project.

Thank you! I have never found so much information about fabric and didn't know that sellers could/would give you that much detail.
