Move along, folks, nothing to see here! Just a dizzy dame who couldn’t see the little dots on one side of the foam. Dang these aging eyes!

Strangely, it does not seem obvious to me and I couldn’t find any information including on Pellon’s own site! If I don’t get an answer, I’ll do some experimenting but I don’t want to end up with a sticky mess so I’m hoping somebody here can give me a quick answer. Help?

FWIW, you can often *feel* the difference. I can't tell anything visually on my favorite interfacing (Pellon Ultra-Weft), either, but the glue side feels decidedly different than the non-fusible side.

Only a teeny scrap is necessary to test, and it's easy to do safely (non-messily) with some freezer paper or parchment paper, or just between two layers of scrap fabric. Then put a pin or a mark on the wrong side so you don't have to go through it all again next time!

Now, where you want to be careful is if you happen to have some water-soluble stabilizer hanging out in your interfacing stash, and you mistake it for fusible interfacing, and you're a dedicated user of the steam setting on your irons. *Poof!* Magically disappearing stabilizer!!

So for your wish list for next year, add: more lighting, more sleep, more magnification, either a lens or glasses. Maybe more labels on things too.

We all do a variation on this with something. Trust me.

I can't see those darn dots so I go exclusively by feel, like Stirs said. One time I thought my interfacing was my press cloth.

This is what happens to your iron when you think it's your press cloth but it's fusible interfacing. Time to call it quits for the day! A wet Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to the rescue!

That is one reason I use silk organza as a press cloth. Those iron cleaners really do work.

Haha! I DO use silk organza press cloths but my interfacing was right next to it and I grabbed the wrong one. Lesson: When you get tired, stop and take a break! I use a damp Mr. Clean Eraser to clean my stainless steel sole plate. Works fast with little effort and no mess. I have to admit it took a little longer with the whole sole plate messed up though.

Yeah, it was a dingbat moment, that’s for sure! I can feel a slight difference from side to side but each had a slightly different very fine fabric fused to it. It didn’t feel like interfacing dots to me. I was also having some trouble believing that this foam wouldn’t melt under my iron.

It didn’t, amazingly.

Libra, you clearly weren't nearly ambitious enough with this. Next time, make sure you have the glue side DOWN, so you also ruin your project.

This happens all the time with the Pellon woven SF101 interfacing. It looks and feels alot like muslin and I have to keep the paper directions with it or I get confused. The dots are very small and well my eyes are bad too. That foam does look nearly identical. Glad you figured it out.

And I’m glad to hear I am in very good company with this problem!
