I am both dumb and lucky (Moderated by Deepika, EleanorSews)

I posted a few weeks ago about my futile efforts to remove some very dark wood stain from a favorite sweater. I did the best I could but it's still there. However, I luckily found a replacement at an Ann Taylor outlet online. Now I have a 'going-out' sweater and one for at home.
I have a bad habit of going off course with things. When I pick up our mail, I'll think of the furniture I've been refinishing and just stop at our garage to work on it without changing into my work clothes. That's hiw I stained my sweater. Well, I did it again and got a 3/8" drop of dark stain on a nice top. Wouldn't you think I'd learn?
In any case, I didn't notice it until it had dried. I soaked the top in mineral spirits, then tried Carbona ink remover and last, Dawn dish detergent. Not much change. Stupidly, I threw the top in the wash, which spread the mineral spirits odor to everything! I did two more washes and it still smelled so I took the top out, ran the wash again and those clothes smelled fine. In the meantime, a friend had given me a bottle of Meyer's clean day geranium dish detergent, which I never used. I thought maybe the fragrance would eliminate the mineral spirits odor. I left it to soak overnight and the next day - the stain was gone! Completely gone.
I am absolutely amazed. I can only guess that the stain was perhaps being 'softened' in the washing machine even though I didn't see any change. I've never used the Meyer's product before and needless to say I am very impressed and wanted to share it with everyone.
Perhaps this is a little happy news during an otherwise difficult week. So - run out and buy some Meyer's before it's gone!

I accidentally wore a new sweater for some gardening yesterday. I can’t seem to learn either! Luckily the dirt brushed off.

Wow! I am looking up this product as I speak. Thanks for the update! (ETA: Oh good, this dish soap -- although not the geranium one -- is sold in the natural foods section of at least one grocery store here. Yay!
