I know, I know, just yesterday I added a comment to StephanieW's review of Hancock's and indicated I would never go back. Well, guess what? I was right back there today. Had to take my husband to Albuquerque and since I was there, I gritted my teeth and went over to the dirty, disorganized Hancock's to get a KwikSew Pattern. Naturally, they were not on sale . I took a look at the Burda catalog while there and when I went to the pattern cabinet, it was bare. So, at check out I asked the cashier about the Burdas. She said they had been discontinued! I said"you mean, Hancock's is not carrying them anymore?" and she said that Simplicity was no longer carrying them and that they had been discontinued altogether! I was so shocked....once in my car (and on the way to the Bernina dealer...more on that in another post) I was composing a message for this board in my mind which basicially went: "help, help, help...this can't be true. " On my way back down this same street (after visiting my bernina dealer) I stopped in at a Joann's on the opposite side of the street from Hancocks...and guess what...? lots of Burdas...and the manager said he had not heard that Burda's were discontinued and that they had just got a big reorder in!! what in the world is wrong with Hancocks? Their employees are incredibly misinformed or just darn ignorant. Now maybe, Burda's are on the way out for us in the US. Does anyone know anything more about this???

Maybe best to email Simplicity and ask direct..that is a scarey thought.

Sounds like Hancock's is just not carrying them. KwikSew's are never on sale at Hancocks around here. Deepika sells both here and they arrive very quickly.

Peggy, I hope you are right! I have bought Burdas and KwikSews from Deepika but you know how it is....instant gratification....I should have known better not to even go there!

My hancocks never has sold Burda, and they just recently started stocking Vogue - before we had to special order or drive to the old Hancock store in town.

I can't imagine not having Burda patterns. My guess is that Hancock's source dropped the Burda line, and by the time the news filtered down to the clerks, the information was distorted. Just a guess...

Hancock stores in the Orlando area don't carry Burda but they do carry Kwik Sew. Joanns carries Burda, but not KwikSew. Hancocks has Simplicity - but not New Look. (Doesn't Simplicity own New Look?) Walmart has New Look, Hancocks doesn't..... Honestly, I need a flowchart and a couple of Gingko Biloba tablets just to pattern shop.

In Canada Burda is distributed by H.A. Kidd, (which also distributes notions) not Simplicity.

Hancock's (I don't know about Joann's but I belive so) are franchises, so much of what happens there is the result of an indivual owner's process. Our Hancock's doesn't carry Burda, but does carry Vogue, McCall's, New Look (I think), Simplicity, Butterick and Kwik Sew. Kwik Sew never goes on sale, the Big 4 are on sale often. The Simplicity website still states that they distribute Burda patterns. I would guess (based on my experiences with my local Hancock's) that the employee just doesn't know what she's talking about.

My Hancocks only ever carried a small selection of children's Burda patterns, so it sounds like whether or not a Hancocks store carries Burda is up to the individual franchise.

The Hancocks here used to carry a full line of Burda's when they were sold with out seam allowance included they disconnected then many years ago. Now they do carry Burda's in childrens only.

They also used to carry Vogue then disconnected them for a while the clerks there told me that the vogue line was being disconnected (mine you that was about 5 -6 years ago at least) they disconnect them then. A couple of years ago the resumed carrying them I guess after McCalls bought Vogue.

I purchased a bunch of Burda's with no seam allowance include when Hancocks disconnect them for 1.00 each I still have alot of them. I also purchased a bunch of older vogues when Hancock closed them out for a 1.00 also now I have a stash of older patterns from the early 90's. Oh well some may come back.. (ha haha
