I have sewn a few invisible zips before but kind of made my own pattern for a girl’s dress and now I’m not sure how to fix this problem. I’ve finished the bodice and skirt seam and left a folded flap at the side for the invisible zip but it’s stitched down where the join is so not sure how to insert without undoing all the stitching.

I'd undo the stitching.
Or, put a zipper in up to the seam and switch to different fastenings if it is a dressy dress.
Or, put a shorter back zipper in or a shorter back opening and closure and couple that with a side seam zipper.
Or, switch to a regular - not invisible zipper.

I have an idea for snipping and patching in and not undoing the seams but it would be a lot of extra work and handwork and still would not have the closure strength and nicer appearance of pulling out the stitching.

Happy discovery this week. Used a cooking skewer to lift under threads from a partial buttonhole that needed to be removed. Once the threads were lifted with the skewer snipping and removing them was fast and neat. It was easier and less disaster prone than attacking with a seam ripper.

Thanks for your reply. Yes it was pretty easy to unpick, I just hate to break a line of stitching. All sorted now and ready for that zipper.
