Greetings everyone,

I posted an image of what I'm looking for. I have a black version of the exact tie and it is 100% silk on label. It's like the silk made for a Navy neckerchief too. They use silk too (sometimes synthetic when I checked the US military uniform official website). What kind of silk is this specifically? Just silk? All I can ever find is raw silk, silk satin, crepe, Dupioni ... I just want to find a silk that doesn't have the nubs on it, isn't super sheer and not shiny, but still has a loose drape. This silk still has a sheen but not super shiny. What is this silk called? Where can I purchase it? It is very soft. I really like the feel and weight of it and want to make some myself for a few outfits I have in different colours.

Check out Silk twill. That is what many scarves are made of, and it is a lovely fabric. Less thin and drapey that crepe de chine in most weights, though. I love crepe de chine for clothes. ( I like shiney less than matte.) I also like double georgette.

Silk broadcloth maybe? I used to see a ton colorful RTW blouses made of silk broadcloth. Not something you see in fabric stores though.

You might well be looking for “sand-washed” silk. It has a beautiful matte sheen and soft handle. Burdastyle sometimes use it in the magazine, Beckford Silk might sell it in the U.K. but I wouldn’t know about US suppliers. Other options would be silk crepe de chine, habotai or charmeuse but that is much shinier with a very liquid hand. Once you get to satin back crepe it is probably too weighty and too much body compared to what you have there, so I would say sandwashed silk or crepe de chine are your best bets.

Yep, I think you’re right about that, sand-washed silk, I couldn’t remember the name. This looks nice a nice medium weight too, not super light nor heavy.

Yeah I believe it's sandwashed silk too after checking out some websites and images. I like the crepe de chine as well. Sandwashed silk seems hardest to find so I am going to go with crepe de chine which is pretty nice too!
