I read all the reviews for this top and as there wasn’t one under four stars I thought it would great to make. I’m tearing my hair out over it as I’ve unpicked seams, lost pieces, the tailor tacks have come out, and generally found it hard to sew. However, I think it could be due to the fabric I’m using which is a very delicate crepe de chine and seems to have a life of its own. It could be that I’ve been using mainly knit or stretch fabrics over the past few years which are much more forgiving. I think it will be all right once I finally finish it but it has been a nightmare.

I feel your pain! I sew knits almost exclusively and there's a huge paradigm shift involved when sewing a woven.
Wait, i need to finish the seams? What is this raveling I see? And don't get me started on fitting!

I don't sew with knits, but some wovens are definitely from Satan's fabric cupboard. I wouldn't touch crepe de chine for all the money in the world.

"Satan's fabric cupboard"! Love it! My new favorite expression for difficult fabrics.

I made the Pendrell top and found it quite easy, even as I newly rediscovered sewing. I think it may be your fabric choice. Sewaholic was known for good instructions and if you go to the blog, there may be some extra posts with more tips

I am so sorry you're having trouble! I never did a review because there was enough reviews already. This is one of my favorites too, I've made it many many times. I definitely know that feeling of having a fabric make a simple project turn into something I wasn't expecting! Hang in there!

I've finished the top and I am very pleased with it after all the problems. I did change the method of attaching the binding as the way the pattern suggested made it very bulky but I will definitely make it again but probably in in a cotton jersey type fabric.
