How to handle issues with dart placement (Moderated by Deepika, Sharon1952)
Posted on: 10/18/21 11:14 PM ET
Hi Everyone
Am in the process of drafting a bodice pattern, however i realize i have equal bust and waist measurements they both measure 114cm.
I would like advice on how to handle the waist darts in this situation.
Do i ignore it all together? How can i add some shape to it?
Looking forward to your responses.
Thanks
Tolu.

In this case you don’t need a waist dart between your bust and your waist. Just eliminate it. You have a nice even body and you don't need to create a shape there.
How long is your bodice sloper supposed to be? In the patternmaking system I use it reaches the hip level. If it’s the same for you and if your hips are wider than your waist, your waist dart will only be between the waist and the hip lines.

It all depends on your shape.
Numbers do not necessarily tell you about shape.
You could have a small bust, wide back and full front waist, or a wide back, full at your side waist and large bust.
Waist darts need to be placed where the body needs it.
