I was sewing along today, and started thinking about sewing tips. It's great to have them on the web site, but the computer is all the way on the other side of the house, and do you think I'll get up from my actual sewing to go to the computer and look something up? Besides, I rarely remember exactly what a tip is titled, so I could spend precious minutes on the computer looking for what I want, and I'll probably get sidetracked and spend hours wandering around here instead!

I know some of you print out your favorites and keep them in a binder, but I don't even have a working printer right now, and do you think I'd be organized enough to remember to do that when there are other goodies around to look at?

So I thought about an e-book anthology of "the best" tips, or even "all* the tips. The journal I work for recently put together an anthology, and although it was a heck of a lot of work, at least some folks thought it was sooo worth the effort. So what do *you* all think? Once something like that is put together in an organized way (and there's where the work comes in!), it could be published as a PDF, which anyone could then print out and keep in her sewing room.

PR owns the copyright for all the descriptions of the tips, of course, and we'd need permission to do something like this from Deepika. Any proceeds from the sale of such an e-book (cheaper than bound books because the printing cost is on the reader--Kinko's would profit, of course) could go to the maintenance and upgrade of our favorite web site, PR.

I'm just airdreaming right now. Poke as many holes as you want in the idea. (My *original* idea was to propose it to Threads--but who knows, they might even like it!) Thanks for letting me wish.

Debbie, this is a good idea.

The mind boggles at where to begin, however.

Well, actually it can be done (obviously) but lots of work and lots of time and most importantly, will it be updated?

oooo, good luck. I nominate you to be in charge.

Maybe an easier first step would be to organize the tips on the site by category like the message board is - ie fitting, patterns, fabric, how to organize, and so on. You'd probably have to do this anyway as a first step to an e-bbok.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Then you'd probably put them into a database and sort them by categories, subcategories, subsubcategories....!
