Reader’s Digest lets me down! (Moderated by EleanorSews)

I am finishing a waistband facing & my trusty Reader’s Digest Guide says to tack it to the seam allowances & darts. Then it has several pages about different kinds of tacks—in a different part of the book—but doesn’t say which is appropriate for this purpose. I’m just stitching it down with a few hand stitches but I wonder if I’m doing it too firmly & it should be a looser tacking stitch? Any thoughts?

I used to stitch-in-the-ditch at side seams to hold down my waistband facings, and that was pretty firm and never gave me issues. So I feel like there is probably a lot of leeway with exactly how you do this.

I usually hand stitch invisibly all the way around.

Absolutely loving my Janome 500e embroidery machine, very creative. Problem with all my stash for clothing!

I also stitch-in-the-ditch. Side seams for waistbands and shoulder seams for tops. If there is a center back seam I'll do it there too, wherever there is a seam really. An edge stitch foot is perfect for this. Guide the foot's blade down the seam line and it's invisible and secure.

Sewing keeps me from falling apart at the seams!
