thread cutter jammed (Moderated by Sharon1952, EleanorSews)

I can't find any reference to this on the internet, so hopefully somebody here can help.
The machine has jammed, and it seems to be because one of the pieces for the cutter is caught. See photo - it is not supposed to look like this. There is an extra long piece sticking out...
And it won't run (the handwheel can't turn )
I don't know enough about the mechanics of any sewing machine to figure out how to release this jam.
I hope someone can help!

Okay - I fixed it - more or less!
A few pieces were stuck one on top of the other; I took off the box mechanism, then removed a plastic piece and this released the other pieces; I was able to get it back together. I can now sew, but the cutter is not working.
I can live with that!
phew!

I've had issues after thread jams similar. Once all is cleaned out, turning off the machine, then turning back on, made the parts sticking out go back where they belonged. Good luck. I feel a sense of panic when my sewing machine (Juki DX-7) isn't working.

Mine did this once and on the phone advice of my sewing machine mechanic, switching the machine off and on again helped it get back into the correct place. I am trawling my memory here but have a feeling that I was told I shouldn't have used the automatic thread cutter when doing what I was doing. It may have been free motion work or sewing on buttons.

Thanks Clareew and Arbuck this was really jammed; turning off and on (and off then going for dinner, then on) did not fix the problem!
I was not doing anything differently than I have been doing, so this was just a glitch :(
It was quite disappointing to have it out of commission - I need to do some buttonholes and my older machine (Elna) is not so reliable with buttonholes!
