I am working out a project to sell, a tiered skirt. The gathering takes forever, and I always seem to gather way more than I need to. Has anyone tried a gathering foot? Does it really save time and/or effort? Any other ideas (not the "zigzag over a cord," though)?

Have you looked in the "tips" section here? Just go to the left of your screen to the search. Type in "gather" and change "patterns" to "tips" (it's a pull down menu) and quite a few items will be pulled up.

Check it out. Hope it helps.

Thanks to both of you! I purchased a gathering foot today, but I must say it doesn't work that well. It holds the fabric in place while it sews...but it doesn't seem to know when to let go. Ah, well. I'll keep trying!
