Even if it still seems sharp (Moderated by Sharon1952, EleanorSews)

I hadn’t done a big project, but I had completed several smaller items. The needle still seemed sharp and the machine was sewing well. Suddenly, the automatic needle threader stopped working. Quite annoying, especially since the machine had been serviced less than six months ago. I rethreaded the machine, changed the thread, cleaned out the bobbin area, and made sure the needle was in the up position. No joy. So I continued to sew, manually threading the machine. During my daily walk yesterday, it occurred to me that maybe the problem was the needle, not the threader. This morning I changed the needle, and Hooray! The needle threader worked. Even though the needle seemed sharp, I think the needle had been slightly bent out of the correct position for the threader to work.
In all honesty, my thought yesterday about the needle was not an Aha! moment. It was a Duh! moment.
If your automatic needle suddenly stops working, try changing your needle.

Thanks for the head's up--that may be what just happened here in this sewing room!

I’ll try that too. It seems to me that the needle threader on my machine stops working for any number of mysterious reasons, and I gave up on it a while ago, so it would be nice if this was the thing causing all the grief. I am pretty cheap when it comes to replacing needles for when I think it is “early” in their lives (not broken, right?
), and I can still thread a needle easily. In fact, it’s almost a proud moment every time I do it

It is recommended to change your sewing machine needle every 8 hours. I change them every two projects. Wawak has great prices on Klasse as well as other home sewing machine needles. You need a selection of different types of needles.

The needle can also work it's way down slightly. Then the threader won't work.
Try cleaning out the path for thread as well...just floss it, like it was a tension disk.
Try repositioning the needle before tossing a good needle.

You can lead people to the truth, but can't make them think.
