This seemed like the best forum for this thread (though do inform if there's a better place.) I just very frequently find myself with beautiful fabric and not a clue what to do with it. I've been yearning for a place where people can post pictures of their finds and how much of it they have and other people can ooh and aah and make suggestions. I started a facebook group called "what do I sew with this?" but so far i'm still the only member and boy if that isn't a pitiful sight, that site. Is there anything like that we know of? I'm particularly asking because I have a specific quandary of that nature at the moment, but it would be a great thing in general, i think.
(Current quandary is this random assortment of really pretty woven silk scraps [all about fat-quarter to 1/2 yard sized.] All sorts of beautiful colors, very menswear, very pocket square. And it's about 100 pieces and i have no idea what to do with them. Pocket squares is not the answer lol)

That sounds like a patchwork project to me -- maybe a vest?

A luxe crazy quilt?
Or patchwork dressing gown?
Or maybe you could piece a very nice lining for a jacket? Or line some wool trousers?

I've actually seen an amazing garment made out of cigarette silks. Sorry I do not have a photo to share., and cigarette silks are small pieces of silk that were included in cigarette packages way back in the day as a way to encourage brand loyalty.

I think it may make a beautiful duster-
Or if you’re creative-a crazy quilt. Mixed with some velvet, lace, buttons, beads and decorative stitching I always wanted to make one of these but silk is expensive

Occasionally someone here will begin such a thread--congratulations for starting the 2025 version! Perhaps a Moderator could Pin it for us?
I believe you have the perfect stash to begin a hobby of sewing exquisite doll clothing. (We're right next door in this very subforum, if you're interested in joining us.
) A full-skirted dress for an 18" doll (AG type) takes about 1/3y. A fat quarter is not enough for most projects, but half a yard is plenty for almost anything. You don't even have to be interested in dolls (although we can't help you with that side effect); it's a really great way to explore fashion in miniature.

Piece the larger pieces together and make new fabric, sew a top/dress/scarf ?
Just make sure 2 neighboring pieces don't clash, I remember taking a picture, blowing it up, then cutting it in sections, and framing each section, and hanging together on a wall...similar thought process.

My first thought is a Victorian style Crazy quilt. The shapes are just random and then the edges of all the pieces are highlighted with assorted embroidery stitches. A wonderful way to highlight and use up those beautiful scraps of silk.

I have that too, lots of small squares of woven silks, (all kinds) except mine are closer to only 2 x 2 inches and much smaller than yours, but I have 3 whole bags of them, so probably maybe at least 300 of them or so. I got them because they were left over samples that normally were given out by a Thai silk store, when someone ordered a sample of something, But, they were selling the left over of those, by the bagful. It was an impulse buy, but they were in front of me, so I just wanted them. Have not made anything of them yet, but mine could be in something patchwork, but mine are so small, I had better do the patchwork stitching on them with a overlocker and not even a sewing machine instead. But, yours are lots larger and big enough to turn into something lots quicker with bigger pieces in them even. So, you could make a throw for a couch with them patchworked together. Or a vest maybe. Or even a covered lampshade. Or maybe patchworked matts for some picture frames possibly. Placemats? They also could be bindings and facings on something else you sewed even. If you mix up a bunch of silks though, and some are dark colors or red, they probably are not too washable even by hand at that point, mixed up like that though, without the colors running. So, something to think about on that maybe. Drapes or window blinds maybe, but I think they would have to be lined in cotton, as the sun often rots out silk, if it's in a window or near one.

I wonder if you lapped yours and used a zigzag on the right side how it would work?
