I'd like to try making my quilt labels on my Janome. I did read the manual but I'm a visual learner so watching a video on this would be helpful. Do you know of a video for this?
TIA

I went to YouTube and searched for Janome 6700 tutorial. I found a series of videos on our machine... I think there is one about the alphabet... I don't have time to review them but I think there are comprehensive at first glance.

Whew … it was long and I was a bit worried recommending it without watching. I should watch it … I make quilt labels on my Janome 6600 and they are awfully sad looking … it might help.

It's a bit of a disappointment that Janome's built-in fonts won't do proper descenders on letters that extend below the line (g, j, p, q, y). They stitch out as they do because of the width of the presser foot and stitching area. I tend to avoid words with these letters.

Montavilla is the best on Youtube for all the brands they sell. I have watched thier videos for the last almost 5 years! The series on my Brother PS500/Babylock Pesto II is so good, plus of course just for fun I watched lots of other videos there, including Janome. Always presented so nicely without music and glitz! Watching videos of more expensive machines is also good be ause you never know when a tip or hint will be valuable.

As to machine alphabet quilt labels. I gave up on that. I also did a few with embroidery frames...embroidered circle and then I wrote inside that with my Sakura Micron pens. Finally I made a cardboard template and I use a piece of fabric which I fold around the template, then iron flat so the edges are folded under. Then I write whatever with the Microns, and sew on the quilt bottom left of back. The template is great, and the Micron pens are permanent. And then the label is in ones own handwriting or printing which may mean something to family in years to come.

My mother used permanent markers on the edge of her quilts to label and she also credited the hand quilter who did her quilts in that labeling as well.
