Do you find Raglan sleeves confusing to alter in patterns? I laid this pattern on a RTW sweatshirt to match, and it turned out with the sleeve wrinkles as seen in the envelope photo. Alterations? Pattern is S9240 from SM 30-32 to XL 46-48, but has happened with other raglans too.

I just made a raglan sleeve top last week, and it was too big under the arms. I ended up tapering out and back in again from the upper arm down to the chest area. Fast and dirty alterations.

What patterns are you using, and what fabrics? Knits or wovens? You might get more specific comments or suggestions for improving if we know get some specifics or a photo?
It might be the designer wanted to be inclusive, and errored to much in the direction of “comfort”, making the upper arms/chest very roomy, and so sacrificing fit. Also the fabric you are pairing with a particular pattern might be an issue. The pattern might require a crisper fabric.

Raglan sleeves form the shoulder of the bodice; set-in sleeves don't. That alone changes how the sleeve drapes and fits. it turned out with the sleeve wrinkles as seen in the envelope photo
But I might have misunderstood your question - did you mean the pattern you are using exactly matches the draft of a RTW sweatshirt you have, but the fit is very different?

Those wrinkles point to the shoulder because there is no true sleeve cap that provides more fabric, like there is with set-in sleeves. Fabric wrinkles always point to where more fabric is needed. The folds work like a dart-of-sorts. Raglan styles will do this.
