i would like to make bellydancing contured belt and not sure which pattern i should draft from. basically the belt is like a big piece of yoke which sits lowly and hug at the hips. is drafting from a skirt pattern suffice or shall i use a pant pattern? i have quite a curvy hips and currently my problem is no matter how i fix it it would not sit properly and always ended up too high. would like it to show my hip bones and the lower spine. any suggestions is greatly appreiated.

If you want it to fit exactly, you could take something like saran wrap or folded foil and wrap it where you want the belt to go (not too snug with the saran wrap, since it would tend to mold rather than model your hips). Then cut it where you want the seams, and you'd have a decent model for getting the fit the way you want. (Don't forget to add seam allowances, though.)
Good luck! I've heard it can be a lot of fun and rewarding to do.

I have to say I am not too pleased with the webpage quoted above -- whoever put that page up has clearly stolen illustrations from the Costume Goddess, Dina Lydia. I would recommend her books, which are available here:

Best of luck!
