What needle is best for stetch wovens? I'm sewing a skirt from poly gabardine with a bit of lycra in it. I'm using a sharp, but I started wondering if a universal or even a ballpoint makes more sense because of the stretch factor? I didn't immediately find an answer when I was poking around the site.

I also have a pile ofr stretch poplins I'll be sewing soon...so I'd like to know the best needle this scenario.

Opinions?

Thanks in advance.

Anne, I normally use a regular sharp point #11. As I have a Janome machine, this is usually a Blue Tip #11 or Organ #11.
Coverstitching works beautifully on stretch wovens for topstitching and hems...eliminates the "wave effect" when stitching across the stretch grain.

I usually use a woven point #12 or #14 depending on the weight (#12 for the poplin) and never had any problem.

I probably have too many sewing machines, but how am I supposed to resist when they're either free by the side of the road or people give them to me?
